Another Delay in the Montana Lewis Trial — Another Disappointment for Sam Graham Jr.’s Family Seeking Justice
Five years since Sam Graham Jr. was taken from us, we are once again facing deep disappointment after the court announced another delay in the first-degree murder trial of Montana Lewis in Sault Ste Marie.
From the start, this process has shown zero respect for Sam, for his memory, or for the pain we have carried every day for half a decade. What makes this even more heartbreaking is how often it has appeared that the system shows far more consideration for the defendant than for the victim who was brutally murdered or the family who lost him.
Every delay forces us to relive our trauma, while the legal process continues to move slowly, cautiously, and with constant accommodations for the accused. Meanwhile, we continue to sit, wait, and suffer — with no compassion from a system that should protect victims and their families.
Our message is clear:
The life of my son matters. Our family and everyone who loved my son matters. But we have not been treated that way.
The judge has delayed the decision in the Montana Lewis murder trial once again. A new court appearance is scheduled for December 17th, when a final decision date — expected in late January — will be officially set.
This delay comes after the judge reviewed 10 days of testimony from more than two dozen witnesses, including individuals who witnessed the confrontation involving Sam Graham Jr. Despite the exhaustive evidence and five years of emotional strain, we left court with no verdict and no closure.
Supporters filled the courtroom wearing black hoodies reading “Justice for Sammy Jr.”, a powerful reminder of the life that was lost and the community that continues to stand with us.
Five years is far too long to wait for justice.
Five years is far too long to watch a system show more care for the defendant than for my son who was brutally murdered.
And five years is far too long for our family to be treated as if our pain doesn’t matter.
